How do you add an extra volume knob into a speaker line?
I have a speaker in the bathroom and i’d like to adjust the volume from there. Ideas?
I was hoping more for a radio shack remedy. I’m assuming it wouldn’t be the hardest thing to put together. I’m just not sure where to start.
This ‘Extra Volume Control’ you are looking for is known
in the Pro Audio Circle as an ‘L-pad’. The applied signal
is connected across the element of this large, wire wound,
variable resistor. The Negative wire from the Amplifier is
common. The Positive wire from the Speaker is connected
to the Wiper Arm of the “Rheostat”, or variable resistor,
by itself. When the control is turned to the negative, or
‘common’; it will send zero signal to the speaker element.
Slowly turning this control the other way, will increase
the signal sent to the speaker proportionately. I suggest
that you choose a 100 watt L Pad. You might want to
make shure that this unit is well vented. The higher the
signal sent to the L Pad will result in some signal loss,
and this loss is changed into heat. Don’t be surprised if
you have to use a small 12 volt fan to keep this unit cold.
I’ve had L Pads get so hot, that the solder connections
wanted to clean themselves of excess solder! I know this
